‘For this body of work I have been looking at the concept of ‘dépaysement’, which is a word that is seemingly untranslatable from French, but is essentially the feeling that comes from not being in one’s home country – or from being in an unfamiliar place.

My paintings have become much more of a response to what is going on around me – and the idea of ‘dépaysement’ depicts the feeling of being in another place not just physically but emotionally and mentally as well.’
